As you age, you’re more prone to decay or gum disease that can result in losing natural teeth. Dental implants offer a long-term solution to most tooth loss problems, as there are implant options and types to suit all needs. An evaluation by Dr. Raynald Michel, your Fort Lauderdale, Florida dentist who does implants, can determine the type of implant best for you.
Implants aren’t teeth but rather screw-like posts used to support replacement teeth. They’re placed inside your jawbone surgically and, over a period of several months, fuse with your bone system to become your new tooth roots. Once the implant has healed, we’ll attach an abutment to hold your restoration and, finally, your replacement teeth to complete your treatment.
Before and After Transformations by Raynald Michel, DDS
Dr. Michel and our team offer different options for implant treatment:
In addition to the implant restoration options, you have a choice of three different types of implants to restore your smile:
1. Endosteal implants resemble small screws and are placed in your jaw surgically to act like tooth roots. Once the implant has fused with your bone system, an abutment, and your restoration are attached to complete your smile
2. Subperiosteal implants are placed beneath your gum but on top of your jawbone instead of within. Your restorations are attached to small posts that extend from the metal frame under your gum. If you don’t have sufficient bone density to support endosteal implants, subperiosteal implants are the next best thing
3. Zygomatic dental implants anchor in your cheekbone instead of your jawbone and are used mainly to replace upper jaw teeth
